A superior court judge will reportedly issue an opinion within the next 30 days in a case brought over a subpoena issued by the state attorney general against a team of MIT students, who developed an experimental software program allowing users to contribute computing power for mining bitcoin in return for not seeing online advertising. The students, who are based in Massachusetts, argue that they should not have to respond to the subpoena as New Jersey has no jurisdiction over them, and that in the form released, the software could not be used to mine bitcoins.
